Swallows and Amazons

Birmingham’s biggest and busiest youth theatre have jumped back into rehearsals and are working hard to achieve another high-quality production, which is of course what Stage2 does best, and anyone who came to see last term’s production of ‘Why Is John Lennon Wearing A Skirt?’ by Claire Dowie you’ll agree, the dynamic cast of this production received standing ovations for every single performance, did I mention that one of those audiences members just so happened to be Claire Dowie herself? You can never have too much excitement with this company! This term Stage2 presents an Arthur Ransome classic…
Swallows & Amazons
By Arthur Ransome, Adapted by Helen Edmundson
Thursday 17th – Saturday 19th July 2014

Swallows and Amazons,  is a beautiful story packed to the brim with a huge range of theatrical elements such as atmospheric music, engaging characters and fantastical adventure, it will be a truly stimulating experience to behold. Stage2 will use our creative ensemble of actors to bring both authenticity and fresh techniques to this wonderful piece of literature, creating a vast array of imaginative visuals for the audience, the chorus will become a part of the sea and help guide the Swallow on its journey, this is just one of the many fantastic scenes in the play; There’s also pirates, puppets and much much more! It is easy to see why this book is loved by generations of adults and children alike, and the production’s style will show a brand new side to this well-known classic.  Another great element of the production is that it is suited for absolutely anybody, so everyone can come along and enjoy!
‘Imagination is at the very centre of
Swallows and Amazons, the children in the story are given the freedom to act out an ambitious, enthralling, imaginative game.
That proved to be the key to this adaptation'
Helen Edmundson

Set in the Lake District during the Summer Holidays in 1929, Swallows and Amazons is the story of John, Susan, Titty and Roger Walker. The children’s plea to be allowed to camp on Wild Cat Island is answered by a now legendary telegram, from their Naval Captain father, which heralds the start of the Swallows’ adventure Early on, the Swallows are attacked by the unruly Amazons, whose territory they have invaded. They fight to determine who should lead the war on Captain Flint! Their imaginations run free as the children become increasingly more involved in the story they have created. Join the Swallows and their trusty boat on their exciting journey across the deep blue sea!
