Alice and The Caterpillar

Youth Transform Wonderland into Www.Land
9th – 12th January 2013 at The Crescent Theatre, BrindleyPlace
Members of Birmingham’s busiest and most exciting youth theatre, Stage2, took to the stage again; inspired by Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, we devised Alice’s Adventures in Www.Land, set online!
This was most impressive with the whole cast involved in such a small area, it was choreographed and performed to perfection." Curtain Call
“The result is a clever piece of theatre, well presented and acted, as you would expect from Stage2” Roger Clarke, Behind The Arras
The whole company are hugely proud of the cast and chorus that took part, with two well-deserved 4* reviews. Stage2 offered the rare opportunity of devising a production, as well as the most advanced technical achievement we have produced yet. Our focus now lies with The Tempest and new workshops, so let’s get cracking on next term!

A helping hand for the chorus of THE TEMPEST (and their parents/guardians/costume finders)

Some reminders, hints and tips from a experienced chorus member!
  • We hope that the additional costume session on Saturday really helped to clarify what costume items were needed.
  • Please take care of the items you borrowed from the Stage2 costume store so that you look your best on stage; but also so we can use them in lots of shows in the future.
  • Please take time this week to try on your costume and practice your scenes in it.
  • We want you all to be  as confident as possible by the time we get to the Mid Term Runs so put effort in to learning all your notes.
  • Remember if you were taking notes for someone or visa versa you must catch up asap so you are all prepared for your next rehearsal.
  • Do your best at all times and really put effort in during the Saturday rehearsals you will find everything much easier to remember!

Please have a look at the dates you need to bring in your costume and the detail it needs

Review your scenes and check that your work is matching  these sheets and that your sheet is filling up with all your facts about the scene!

THE TEMPEST

@ The Crescent Theatre
Tickets £9 from Box Office or 0121 643 5858

Rehearsals have begun with a bang (or a thunder clap!) for Stage2's production of The Tempest! With over 70 members of Stage2taking part on stage this is set to be a real spectacle of a show. Like all Stage2Shakespeare's this show has some great character twists and even some plot changes to keep the audience on their toes.
In our version
  • Prospero is female, a widow who turns to the ‘liberal arts’ of natural remedies, hypnotism and astrology to distract her in her grief.
  • Antonia, her sister, plays on this distraction and furthers her own advancement; first with help from Alonso, King of Naples, to become a Duchess - later plotting with Sebastian to be his Queen. Echoes of a game of chess…..?
  • Sebastian, the bitter and bolshy illegitimate brother, is (eventually and literally) roused to take action.
  • Ariel and her gang are like free-runners, spying on the action from the trees, singing and making music, hidden by branches and leaves and playing at being pirates (among other roles)….
  • Miranda plays with the gang whenever possible or at least whenever Prospero’s back is turned.
  • Prospero and Ariel like, teach and support each other, Prospero learns more about indigenous flora and fauna, in turn teaching Greek Mythology and attempting to teach acting skills.
  • There is no magic – everything is trickery and illusions - performed by ‘smoke and mirror effects’, cloths on pulleys, hypnotic trances.  All characters are human (though not all humane.)
  • The audience are on board the ship, that isn’t wrecked but is steered clumsily off course by the afore mentioned pirates as our games begin….
