Take Part Spring 2014

Opportunity for Birmingham Kids to Work with World Famous Performer!

Claire Dowie, one of the UK's finest playwrights is returning to Birmingham through the presence of Stage2; Brum's busiest youth theatre. Claire, Stage2's Patron, has given personal permission (and ongoing support) to the young company as they embark on the intrepid task of asking; Why is John Lennon Wearing a Skirt?
The play, popular for it's in-yer-face attitude towards gender, the workplace and social peculiarities - particularly when it comes to clothing – celebrates it's 25th anniversary this year and whilst Claire herself tours the world with a reworking of the original monologue, Stage2 (also in their 25th year) brings the script to life in a completely different way.

Why is John Lennon Wearing a Skirt? is a powerful exploration of stereotyping and pressures to conform – a journey through a girl’s life that includes frustrated encounters with skirts, incredulous encounters with tights and disastrous encounters with boys. She gets through school by pretending to be in the Beatles and her first office job by pretending to be in the Army. With the exciting addition of a live band on stage, a huge cast of Birmingham’s best bring the perils of being a teenager hilariously and sometimes horrifically to life!

And the best part? Anyone who wants to can get involved! (between the ages of 7-21 – sorry parents!). Stage2 is currently recruiting for the Spring Term 2014 which means anyone (regardless of previous experience!) can be a part of this unique opportunity, being an integral part of this full-scale award winning piece of theatre. So, if you're inquisitive and want find out why this famous Beatle is wearing a skirt, work with a famous practitioner, be part of a huge show or just want to get involved in Birmingham’s busiest youth company, all you have to do is turn up on the 25th January! If you or a young person you know would like to get involved please contact info@stage2.org or check out our website for details; www.stage2.org
